Cats: A review

Cats: the Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I was expecting something similar to Phantom of the Opera since its also by him (and I didnt read any synopsis or whatsoever about Cats beforehand). It turned out to be totally different.

To be frank, I didn't like it. (It's not because I don't know how to appreciate these art thingys, I liked PotO okay..)

Perhaps it's because I didn't know what was going on most of the time; perhaps it's because I slept quite a bit during the performance; perhaps it's because I slept at 1+ last night and woke at 7 today and busied myself the entire morning. Lol.

The entire performance was composed of singing and dancing (obviously, that's why it's a dance-musical), and some of the lyrics I couldn't really hear. At one point when they were performing something for the old cat leader I nodded off for a bit, until that particular song was over. Hahas.

My favourite song of the musical - Memory, was performed a few times by different characters. It was nice that their singing styles were different; shows subtle differences in singing levels.

Entirely, the dance musical was really interactive, with cats prowled around the audiences' seats and the zilian cat getting the entire audience to cheer for him and clap for him lol. Best part I felt was unique to circle 1: a certain cat prowling at circle 1 after the intermission chased after this little girl, frightening her, making her scream. Lol. And he also attempted a "robbery" by snatching this woman's handbag, she looked back and saw him and everyone laughed. Hahas

Hmm. Next time I'm watching a musical I'm gonna have to read they're synopsis and whatnot first. I enjoyed PotO last time because I already knew what it was about from watching its movie.

Last weekend before confinement

Tahan Training yesterday. Kennsiang Rueben and Anthony recced this path from Braddell to MacRitchie (passing by Mediacorp) to RI to J8 to Bishan Park, where they did nians and had lunch, then on to AMK Ave 3 to Serangoon Gardens. According to them they attempted to kidnap from both the front and back at the Serangoon Gardens area, cos they were intending to dash trek and run in super detours. Don't know if they succeeded.

One j1 kena sprain, she said its old injury. Another caught flu last night and it seemed to have worsened, yet he came for training. In the end we forced him to sit with us at Serangoon Gardens Chomp Chomp where we bought drinks (at 7-11). Anyway Chomp Chomp wasn't open yet so we didnt eat any buffalo wings.

It started raining at around 3 or 4; they were having evaluation at this Serangoon Community Park and we (laolaos, some seniors and 2 injured/sick j1s) were still at Serangoon Gardens area. In the end they said to go to Serangoon MRT to seek shelter. So we stoned there...

After everyone came and after a nice long chat (j1s by themselves with some laolaos, j2s by themselves with some laolaos) J1s left followed by j2s and us. Weird quarrel between the infamous j2 couple, I dao anyway and we went j8 pizza hut. Crispy thin pizza is totally not worth it. It's hard and not really crispy and I think caoda and not filling. Mango surprise was rather nice though.

At 7 I left for weiqi, we went to TPY to do saigang for today's competition. And after saigang, James (SWA) treated us to pizza hut. Lol.

Sunday-- Toa Payoh East Weiqi Competition.
Its rather stupid. They're trying to squeeze 7 games for grp A into ONE DAY. And I don't think its called Fast Game Competition anyway.

So I was busy the entire morning counting territory, recording results, all that shitty judging things. Most interesting match I saw was between 2 girls (one from RIJC - black; the other dunno from where - white). White was winning like crazy. Then she raised her hand, I went over thinking they endgame liao. After I concluded that white won, black asked, "May I know why I lost?" Like so innocent liddat. So then I thot the game not over, since both parties haven't agreed. So I told them to continue playing. Both had around 3 mins left. After I walked away, both continued playing. Black was like, playing with one hand and pressing the clock with the other almost immediately after white plays, while white still put in some thought and took her time to press the clock. In the end white's time was up! So I got Hsien Yu over to see, explaining that Black was just randomly putting seeds and waiting for time. He concluded that Black was being stupid and ridiculous (with her protesting that they were playing ko) and decided White won anyway. HA.
Wtf. Shitty school for churning out shitty students who have shitty attitude and try to win by resorting to shitty dishonest means. Yirui and I agreed that we felt like giving her a slap for attempting to win like that.

I left at around 1, went to watch CATS at Esplanade with family. Heard that Yurika emerged champion for TPY!! Stunned. Anyway Congrats. :D

ARGH my last 35 hrs free before I enter tekong.

Deadlines are OVER!!! :D

Hahas. Its been 13 days since I last blogged! Not yet one entire week, phew.

Finally! All my deadlines are past. NUS submission of supporting documents deadline: 1st April, NTU ADM submission of portfolio and assignments deadline: 1st April, SMU application deadline: 1st April. Wonder if its simply an April Fool's joke or what.

Anyway. I finished application and submission of everything for SMU on 31st March. Went down to Bras Basah to BBC to photocopy relevant documents, tried to get all my artwork photocopied. Unfortunately only the A3 stuff were successfully photostated; the larger ones were either too thick (collage) or too dark (that shop only had b/w; he said it would result in an all black paper if I photostated that particular charcoal sketch). Haiz.. in the end I could only take a photo of it and submit that photo. Lol. After photostating the relevant documents (and IC and results slip) I went to submit my stuff at SMU.

Yesterday 1 April, Mum fetched me to NUS and NTU to submit their required documents. NUS was near NP, still fine and we found the place (University Hall) really quick. NTU was like super far away, we took AYE up then turned at Pioneer Rd and went up, super ulu. Really don't feel like studying in NTU already. After we got to NTU, we nearly got lost there and finally found the place (student's service center) and I went to level 2 to submit stuff. THEN I found out I hadn't done the composition of "why I am uniquely qualified to enter to particular BFA course". Whats BFA anyway? Hahas. Anyway I stood there at their computer and just started crapping away about why I am qualified. Lame shit.

So when it was all done, mum sent me to Lornie Rd to take a bus to Holy Innocent's Primary.

Watched some concert at YMS yesterday, with kx. All violins and cellos, and even a sextet of violins violas and cellos. Quite nice overall. Kx got free tickets from his tutee so he asked if I wanted to go. His tutee performed the cello. Hahas quite imba anyway. At least, better than me. Dunno if she's better than my brother? Lol.

COOKED YAM RICE AT HOME TODAY. SUCCESSFULLY. YAY YAY YAY !!!:D :D :D

Ichigo evolves

Lol. Naruto 440 and Bleach 350 is out.

Naruto meets his dad, refrains from unlocking the nineth tail and prepares to meet pain again, heads on in the next issue. And for Bleach... lol it's all simply so expected. Ichigo meets a near death experience, he evolves, now we'll be finding out how he managed to evolve. And before they tell us more about that, they show us that Kurosagi now most probably doesn't know how to pronounce intelligent words (sounds like the Joker) and is ultra fast and strong.

Anyway it was my birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!

Family celebrated with me at zhenfa steamboat. It was rather nice :D especially the prawns and the banana chocolate ECLAIRS!!!!

Haha I wanna go zhenfa again soon. Anyway most probably there will be tahan dinner tomorrow, weiqi YC dinner on Sat, P6 dinner on Sun! Yay

13032009 (Fri)
The trip started on Friday. I spent morning preparing, going NTUC to buy eggs and stuff. Then after packing my bag I went sch. 15 J1s and 6 J2s went with me and Eugene (my batchmate, captain for my batch), as well as 2 teacher chaperones. Thats 25 persons in all.

I reached sch at 1430, realized tahan room wasn't open yet, then I went to weiqi to say hi to yanglaoshi and the weiqi jrs, and at 1530 I went back to tahan. Packed stuff, said hi to jrs, YongKai the Captain Cook even came! and he was shocked at my bringing the big heavy frying wok. Anyway he wished us luck and told Eugene and I (the only laolaos on the trip) we were to look after everyone. ARGH.

We left Singapore at around 6. The coach brought us to Singapore and JB checkpoints and it left. We had dinner at near the new JB checkpoint. Then we took this other coach to Kelantan, DABONG Town.

14032009 (Sat) DAY ONE
Reached this petrol station place in the morning where we had breakfast (bread and orange juice for me). Coach continued on the Dabong.

Finally reached Dabong at around 12. Had lunch (energy bars) and started trek. Walked in from some main road into Stong Resort, registered our names and started the real trek :D
Jrs where screwed up more or less. Slow here, complain there, this forget, that missing. But its good that they do cheer and sing most of the time for day 1.

Anyway we went up to Bahas Base Camp via the waterfall path. Uber dangerous but breathtaking :D:D:D Love it! Look up and see the majestic Stong waterfall, look back and see a long way down !!!! :D AHAHA So anyway the J1s complained its too dangerous. ONE SAID HE WAS SCARED IF HE DIED HE WOULD BE DAMN SIAN. AHAHAHAHAHA Cannot stop laughing.

Reached Base Camp at around 3, they gave J1s 30mins to pitch tent, they took 2 hrs. Anyway most of us went to play water first. I went back at 4.30 to start cooking. YAM RICE!!! Peeled and sliced yam, cut dried pork sausages, cooked rice and waited and waited and waited. All the way until 7.30. Rice still wasn't 100% soft and fluffy; yam wasn't soft. Epic failure... But many said it was nice! Haha maybe they haven't eaten imba yam rice yet.

Lesson learnt: don't cook yam rice if you don't have a rice cooker.

15032009 (Sun) DAY TWO
Jrs started cooking at 6.20. They were to finish by 7.45. Hahas that was super early, but I think rather necessary for noob cooks. I started at around 6.40 la. So we finished eating everything at approx 7.45 and lazed around for a while.

Set off at 9, after tentmen packed everything and we warmed up. Path up today was rather easy until it rained. Reached Bahas Summit (1450m) at approx 3, continued on to Ayam Summit (1500m). Reached there at around 5 (after the horrible collecting water experience at spring source where we all waited damn long in the cold weather combined with the rain). I borrowed jr's tiny pot, came up with hot water for everybody, hopefully that made everybody better. Hahas Kai Ni (J1 Cook) wonderful phrase "where to get hot water?" made all of us amused on saturday night.

Cooked Instant Noodles (curry flavour). Added egg, sausages, luncheon. After finishing up some were still hungry, then we realized Lutheng's bag still had some of today's dinner. ARGH. Anyway I was rather full. So the rest suffered from hunger (a bit only la) and lutheng suffered from additional 400g of wait. Ha.

At night it was super cold and raining wet. So all the overland tents leaked, Walrus leaked quite a lot and REI astonishingly leaked too. Everybody had a bad night. I slept 3 hrs lying down then got up (couldn't bear the cold ground despite my waterproof thick jacket) and slept sitting up. Everybody was just sitting up and trying to cuddle together for warmth.

16032009 (Mon)
Woke up at around 4 again. Talked and stoned until around 5.50 then we got out. Cooked milo for everybody (jrs decided to free their jr cooks of the duty, which would have made everybody suffer had I not cooked warm milo). Got the powder and pot from Jrs, then started cooking. It took damn long to warm up (and I was super cold lor) and finally we drank to our heart's content :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I believe everybody should have been satisfied. Oh yea Lutheng said yesterday night some girls complained and said they were considering quiting tahan. Haha be my guest :D

Set off at 8. Seniors and laolaos warmed up to pumping and starjumps HAHA NICE ONE I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT "YAYA PAPAYA" starjump!
I went in front today. At the start I was in front of Kai Ni, telling her how to walk. She seemed fine. So they appointed me to guide Bernice. So we walked and walked and walked (climbed downwards). Rather slow pace I must say. At a certain point, Fiona's toe decided to bang into her larger than supposed boot and it was hurting like hell so they decided to stop. Jrs carried her load and David supported her down. When we reached the entrance to Bahas Base Camp, Zi Tao (Jr Waterman) decided he was super urgent and rushed to shit.

When we were all ready again the guide piggybacked-supported-guided Fiona down all the way. I carried the guide's haversack, JX carried his daypack. At this super muddy area it was too slippery for me to walk with 2 haversacks. So I just took the easy way out. SLIDE!! Ahahaha but it wasn't really fun. Quite painful on my butt. Hahas. Anyway when I reached the bottom of the super muddy path I stood up and continued walking. Quite a weird feeling though. Hahas. Its like, you have to watch your step in front, but whatever you see comes 1 second later to your feet since it isn't the immediate front due to the stupid haversack blocking the sight. Hahas. Anyway I progressed rather safely.

Returned the haversack to the guide after some time, took his daypack from JX and continued walking, it was much easier then. And after some time the guide took his daypack back. Then we reached Stong Resort finally after a short while. YAY.

Washed up, then took a van to Dabong train station. Dinner there, then we took coach back.

Anticipates AYAM

Hahas. I just realized that my results are worse than I thought. I originally thought it meant BBC/A as I misunderstood that the H1 subject considered would be something like GP. Its actually the H1 content subject, or in my case the worst H2 subject. So my results are actually BBC/C. Haiz...

Hahas I'll be applying for scholarships and NUS Archi and ID and perhaps the new course Comm and Media, as well as NTU ADM. Now all I'm relying on are my below average results and my portfolio, which Ivan Lee says is actually pretty good (since I have represented the nation for weiqi quite a few times!). That pretty much comforted me and gave me much more hope hahas :D. But still I'll work on my art portfolio as CMY advised. Anyone knows if SAT is of any use for local universities? If so I'll go take SAT (originally already planning to do so).

Hmm. Yam rice for dinner today. But my aunt didn't use the sauce provided (bought), all she did was fry yam and onion and mushroom and pork and when yam was somewhat soft she added rice to stir around in the mix and then put into the rice cooker to let it cook. It was quite nice, only that YS complained that ONLY YAM RICE FOR DINNER WAS NOT ENOUGH!!! I thought he's on diet. Lol. In the end he biked out to buy some roast chicken (super oily).

GUNUNG AYAM TRIP BEGINS TOMORROW. HOPE I'LL IMPRESS THE J1S WITH MY CULINARY SKILLS!!!! WAHAHA.

Yam Rice on Gunung AYAM!

I'll be going to my aunt's place tomorrow to learn how to cook yam rice (although the instructions are already written on the Chng Kee bottle thingy). Must buy yam (obviously), fried onion bits, garlic, dried mushrooms, dried sausages, shrimps. HAHA I'LL BE COOKING THIS ON AYAM!!!

Luckily we will have almost the entire afternoon resting at stong waterfall campsite on Saturday. So now I'll have time to peel yam, chop garlic and prepare everything. Ahhhh super looking forward to Ayam trip :D:D:D It'll be 90hrs of peace and quietness from my lousy results. HAHA YAY YAY YAYYAYAYAY Shit I sound like a runaway from IMH!

Went helping out at my uncle's shop today. Halfway I cycled over to Serau Lorong Kampong Buangkok, the last kampong in Singapore (according to Wikipedia). Lol it's really small and squeezy. But looks cozy and antiqity. Dunno.

Anyway the Ing Cup Photoblog template is FINISHED YAY. But I don't have time to make my own. So it'll have to wait till after Ayam.

And I just realized that taking photos is somewhat a waste of time (as long as other people are taking photos too). Reason number one: You compete for space while attempting to take your best photo (found out after looking at the 10 mins media time just at the start of the games during Ing Cup). Reason number two: In the end, your photo will just be about the same as another person's photo. Reason number three: Someone else definitely has a more powerful camera/better photo taking skills than you. Reason number four: You waste time after that as you have to upload photos to your computer and then upload it online for all to see. In the end, the most convenient method is simply to wait till others take the photos then you go to kope!!!

HAHA I'm smart right? Okay I know I'm not. GAHHSDSDG
