13032009 (Fri) The trip started on Friday. I spent morning preparing, going NTUC to buy eggs and stuff. Then after packing my bag I went sch. 15 J1s and 6 J2s went with me and Eugene (my batchmate, captain for my batch), as well as 2 teacher chaperones. Thats 25 persons in all.
I reached sch at 1430, realized tahan room wasn't open yet, then I went to weiqi to say hi to yanglaoshi and the weiqi jrs, and at 1530 I went back to tahan. Packed stuff, said hi to jrs, YongKai the Captain Cook even came! and he was shocked at my bringing the big heavy frying wok. Anyway he wished us luck and told Eugene and I (the only laolaos on the trip) we were to look after everyone. ARGH.
We left Singapore at around 6. The coach brought us to Singapore and JB checkpoints and it left. We had dinner at near the new JB checkpoint. Then we took this other coach to Kelantan, DABONG Town.
14032009 (Sat) DAY ONE Reached this petrol station place in the morning where we had breakfast (bread and orange juice for me). Coach continued on the Dabong.
Finally reached Dabong at around 12. Had lunch (energy bars) and started trek. Walked in from some main road into Stong Resort, registered our names and started the real trek :D Jrs where screwed up more or less. Slow here, complain there, this forget, that missing. But its good that they do cheer and sing most of the time for day 1.
Anyway we went up to Bahas Base Camp via the waterfall path. Uber dangerous but breathtaking :D:D:D Love it! Look up and see the majestic Stong waterfall, look back and see a long way down !!!! :D AHAHA So anyway the J1s complained its too dangerous. ONE SAID HE WAS SCARED IF HE DIED HE WOULD BE DAMN SIAN. AHAHAHAHAHA Cannot stop laughing.
Reached Base Camp at around 3, they gave J1s 30mins to pitch tent, they took 2 hrs. Anyway most of us went to play water first. I went back at 4.30 to start cooking. YAM RICE!!! Peeled and sliced yam, cut dried pork sausages, cooked rice and waited and waited and waited. All the way until 7.30. Rice still wasn't 100% soft and fluffy; yam wasn't soft. Epic failure... But many said it was nice! Haha maybe they haven't eaten imba yam rice yet.
Lesson learnt: don't cook yam rice if you don't have a rice cooker.
15032009 (Sun) DAY TWO Jrs started cooking at 6.20. They were to finish by 7.45. Hahas that was super early, but I think rather necessary for noob cooks. I started at around 6.40 la. So we finished eating everything at approx 7.45 and lazed around for a while.
Set off at 9, after tentmen packed everything and we warmed up. Path up today was rather easy until it rained. Reached Bahas Summit (1450m) at approx 3, continued on to Ayam Summit (1500m). Reached there at around 5 (after the horrible collecting water experience at spring source where we all waited damn long in the cold weather combined with the rain). I borrowed jr's tiny pot, came up with hot water for everybody, hopefully that made everybody better. Hahas Kai Ni (J1 Cook) wonderful phrase "where to get hot water?" made all of us amused on saturday night.
Cooked Instant Noodles (curry flavour). Added egg, sausages, luncheon. After finishing up some were still hungry, then we realized Lutheng's bag still had some of today's dinner. ARGH. Anyway I was rather full. So the rest suffered from hunger (a bit only la) and lutheng suffered from additional 400g of wait. Ha.
At night it was super cold and raining wet. So all the overland tents leaked, Walrus leaked quite a lot and REI astonishingly leaked too. Everybody had a bad night. I slept 3 hrs lying down then got up (couldn't bear the cold ground despite my waterproof thick jacket) and slept sitting up. Everybody was just sitting up and trying to cuddle together for warmth.
16032009 (Mon) Woke up at around 4 again. Talked and stoned until around 5.50 then we got out. Cooked milo for everybody (jrs decided to free their jr cooks of the duty, which would have made everybody suffer had I not cooked warm milo). Got the powder and pot from Jrs, then started cooking. It took damn long to warm up (and I was super cold lor) and finally we drank to our heart's content :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I believe everybody should have been satisfied. Oh yea Lutheng said yesterday night some girls complained and said they were considering quiting tahan. Haha be my guest :D
Set off at 8. Seniors and laolaos warmed up to pumping and starjumps HAHA NICE ONE I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT "YAYA PAPAYA" starjump! I went in front today. At the start I was in front of Kai Ni, telling her how to walk. She seemed fine. So they appointed me to guide Bernice. So we walked and walked and walked (climbed downwards). Rather slow pace I must say. At a certain point, Fiona's toe decided to bang into her larger than supposed boot and it was hurting like hell so they decided to stop. Jrs carried her load and David supported her down. When we reached the entrance to Bahas Base Camp, Zi Tao (Jr Waterman) decided he was super urgent and rushed to shit.
When we were all ready again the guide piggybacked-supported-guided Fiona down all the way. I carried the guide's haversack, JX carried his daypack. At this super muddy area it was too slippery for me to walk with 2 haversacks. So I just took the easy way out. SLIDE!! Ahahaha but it wasn't really fun. Quite painful on my butt. Hahas. Anyway when I reached the bottom of the super muddy path I stood up and continued walking. Quite a weird feeling though. Hahas. Its like, you have to watch your step in front, but whatever you see comes 1 second later to your feet since it isn't the immediate front due to the stupid haversack blocking the sight. Hahas. Anyway I progressed rather safely.
Returned the haversack to the guide after some time, took his daypack from JX and continued walking, it was much easier then. And after some time the guide took his daypack back. Then we reached Stong Resort finally after a short while. YAY.
Washed up, then took a van to Dabong train station. Dinner there, then we took coach back.

This template is, obviously, best viewed in MSIE6+ (Microsoft Internet Explorer), although I still prefer using Mozilla Firefox so many times compared to IE. The only reason why MSIE is the better browser to view this skin in is because MSIE is the only browser in the world which doesn't follow WC3 standards and allows web developers to change scrollbar colours, leading to lots of complaints from pro-WC3-standards people! But anyhow, Mozilla Firefox is still the number ONE recommended browser!! :D
