Cats: A review

Cats: the Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I was expecting something similar to Phantom of the Opera since its also by him (and I didnt read any synopsis or whatsoever about Cats beforehand). It turned out to be totally different.

To be frank, I didn't like it. (It's not because I don't know how to appreciate these art thingys, I liked PotO okay..)

Perhaps it's because I didn't know what was going on most of the time; perhaps it's because I slept quite a bit during the performance; perhaps it's because I slept at 1+ last night and woke at 7 today and busied myself the entire morning. Lol.

The entire performance was composed of singing and dancing (obviously, that's why it's a dance-musical), and some of the lyrics I couldn't really hear. At one point when they were performing something for the old cat leader I nodded off for a bit, until that particular song was over. Hahas.

My favourite song of the musical - Memory, was performed a few times by different characters. It was nice that their singing styles were different; shows subtle differences in singing levels.

Entirely, the dance musical was really interactive, with cats prowled around the audiences' seats and the zilian cat getting the entire audience to cheer for him and clap for him lol. Best part I felt was unique to circle 1: a certain cat prowling at circle 1 after the intermission chased after this little girl, frightening her, making her scream. Lol. And he also attempted a "robbery" by snatching this woman's handbag, she looked back and saw him and everyone laughed. Hahas

Hmm. Next time I'm watching a musical I'm gonna have to read they're synopsis and whatnot first. I enjoyed PotO last time because I already knew what it was about from watching its movie.
